Possession of unprescribed Xanax tablets leads to community service for Cork man

HAVING three Xanax tablets without a prescription resulted in a man being ordered to do 120 hours of community service yesterday.

Judge Olann Kelleher said that Jamie Purcell of 7 Seminary Court, Blackpool, could do the community service order instead of four months in prison.

Purcell, who is aged around 20, pleaded guilty to possessing the drug for his own use.

Sergeant Gearóid Davis said gardaí caught the young man with the three tablets on November 7, 2018 following a search of his person.

Sgt. Davis said the defendant had eight previous convictions but none related to drug possession.

Shane Collins-Daly, defence solicitor, said the defendant had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
