Ten more have died from coronavirus in Ireland; 255 new cases confirmed

The Department of Health has announced 255 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, as well as 10 more deaths.

It is the worst day Ireland has seen in terms of the impact of the pandemic.

It brings the total number of cases in Ireland to 1,819, and the total number of deaths to 19.

The deceased patients are three females and seven males. 

Nine of the deaths were in the east of the country and one in the south.

The median age of the deceased is 79 years, 68% are male and 32% are female.

Dublin has the highest number of cases at 774, followed by Cork with 154 cases.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan says they expect to see more deaths as a result of the coronavirus, and have always said that the number of infections would rise.
