Tragic death of Cork fisherman has left the 'community devastated'
Dermot Bolger died in tragic circumstances

The funeral of fisherman Dermot Bolger, who passed away tragically over the weekend, is to take place on Wednesday.

The funeral mass for Mr Bolger, who lived in Conna, will be live streamed online from St. Catherine's Church, Conna at 11am on June 24.

It’s understood Mr Bolger was reported missing after he failed to return from a fishing trip on the Blackwater River near Ballyduff in Waterford last Friday.

Members of Blackwater Search and Rescue, Gardaí, Rescue 117, Search and Rescue Dogs Association Ireland and other emergency services were involved in the missing persons incident in Ballyduff from the early hours of Saturday morning.

The body of Dermot Bolger was subsequently recovered from the river.

Mr Bolger leaves behind a wife June and two daughters.

Local Councillor Frank O’Flynn said it was a very sad time for the family, adding that everyone’s thoughts and prayers are with them.

“The community is devastated,” he said.

St Catherine’s camogie club paid tribute to Mr Bolger on his tragic passing saying: “We will truly miss Dermot’s support, enthusiasm and fierce passion on the sidelines.”

Valley Rangers FC posted saying that the club wished to extend their deepest sympathy to the Bolger family on the tragic passing of former player Dermot Bolger.

Due to public health guidelines surrounding Covid-19 a private family funeral will take place, but a memorial service will be held at a later date.
