Gardaí have successfully reunited an engagement ring that was found on Patrick Street with its owner, thanks to the power of social media.
In a statement, they said that the owner's daughter had seen the post and was able to inform her mother that the ring had been found.
"Yesterday we posted a ring that was found in Cork city.
"The owner's daughter saw the post and the ring is back where it belongs.
"Great start to the weekend," Gardaí said, thanking the public for sharing the post.
The engagement ring found has three stones.
Gardaí have had some incredible stories of sentimental jewellery reunited with the owner in the past.
Back in February, a precious wedding ring was reunited with its owner four years after it was lost.
The wedding band was handed into Bandon Garda station in 2016 and was returned to its rightful owner earlier this year after a long search.
It was found on the beach in Rosscarbery and the inscription said "Sara 20/6/2008".
Posting a picture of the engagement ring found on Patrick Street, Gardaí said they would love to have another success story.
"We have had some great luck in getting rings back to people on our page. Let's try one more," they said.
The owner of the ring can contact Cork city divisional stores on 021-4214687.
