Eight more people with Covid-19 have died in Ireland, bringing the death toll from the disease here to 1,703.

This evening, Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health also confirmed that eight additional cases of the disease have been reported here in the past 24 hours.

A total of 25,238 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Ireland since the beginning of the outbreak.

There are currently a total of 86 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in hospital. Of these, 28 cases are currently in ICU.

Data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre up to Tuesday night shows 1,532 cases of Covid-19 have now been reported in Cork.

This evening, Professor Philip Nolan Chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group said the disease has been in decline in the last number of weeks.

He said it is now estimated that the reproduction number is between 0.4 to 0.8.
