A TEAM of investigators from the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission has started a probe into a shooting in Mallow last night by armed gardaí.
Two men were arrested last night under drugs legislation after the incident in the Spa area of Mallow.
During the incident, one shot was discharged by gardaí.
There were no serious injuries, although one man was injured in the shoulder. He was taken to Cork University Hospital.
The two men who were arrested have addresses in Cork city.
The shooting occurred after a car failed to stop at a checkpoint at around 8.30pm.
A spokeswoman for the GSOC said this morning that an investigation into the circumstances of the discharge of the firearm is underway. A team from GSOC has arrived in Cork to begin the investigation.
A substance believed to be crack cocaine was seized. That will be now be sent away for analysis.
One of the men is being held in Mallow this morning while the other is being questioned in the Bridewell.
The car in which they were travelling was being driven into Mallow town when they came across the garda checkpoint.
The men who are in custody are being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
GSOC would like to hear from any potential witnesses that may have captured the incident on dashcams or mobile footage.

A man was shot during an incident of suspected criminal drug activity in Mallow last night.
The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) was called to the scene and is conducting an investigation into the discharge of a Garda firearm.
The incident occurred at approximately 8.30pm at Spa, Mitchelstown Road, Mallow when a Garda discharged a single shot from a firearm.
It is understood a man was shot in the shoulder and his injuries are not considered serious.
Two men were arrested at the scene.
"Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances of this incident,” Gardaí said in a statement last night.
“Two men have been arrested and are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Mallow Garda station.
"Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have been notified and are at the scene of the incident and will conduct their investigation into the discharge of a Garda firearm."
