A MAN in his 40s was killed when the car he was driving collided with a lorry on the N22 near Ovens at around 11.15am this morning.
No other people were injured in the incident.
Emergency services immediately rushed to the scene of the collision.
Three units of the fire service were dispatched - two from Anglesea Street and one from Ballincollig.
Gardaí remain at the scene of the collision this evening.
They are advising people that the road remains closed to traffic and say that local diversions are in place.
They are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward and for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the N22 between 10:50am and 11:15am to make this footage available to gardaí.

Meanwhile, local councillor Derry Canty said the community in the area were shocked following the news which came on the first day restrictions introduced to reduce the spread of COVID-19 were reduced.
“The community is shocked. We are thinking of the family at this time. People in the area are numbed that this happened on the first morning back,” Cllr Canty said.
