Latest: Four taken to CUH following serious road crash in Cork 

Gardaí at Macroom are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. 

LATEST: Four people have been taken to Cork University Hospital following a road traffic collision involving two cars in the Knocknaboul area of Ballydesmond, with one believed to be in a serious condition. 

"Forensic Collision Investigators are currently at the scene," a Garda spokesperson told The Echo. "The road is closed at Knocknaboul Cross and local diversions are place." 

Gardaí at Macroom are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. 

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to Gardaí.

EARLIER: The Ballydesmond/Castleisland road is closed just outside Ballydesmond itself at Knocknaboul Cross due to a collision. 

Emergency services were called to the scene, close to the Cork/Kerry border, shortly before 5pm. 

It is understood two cars were involved and paramedics were among services called. It is not known at this time how many people are injured.

Gardaí are advising motorists to use the N72 via Rathmore instead, and the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
