ECHO reporter, Ann Murphy has been bestowed with a prestigious Justice Media Award from the Law Society of Ireland.

Ms Murphy was the recipient of the award in the Print/online journalism (local) category, receiving recognition for her ‘Sex for rent’ investigation.

The judges described the story as undercover reporting which reached the four corners of the world.

Ms Murphy had demonstrated true dedication to exposing wrongdoing, and her investigation into landlords seeking to exploit vulnerable tenants had a powerful impact, going far beyond her local area of Cork, and triggering international discussion.

“Ann Murphy is a wonderful journalist and everyone in The Echo is hugely proud of her achievement,” Maurice Gubbins, Editor of The Echo said.

Three Irish Examiner staff — Cormac O’Keeffe, Michael Clifford, and Cianan Brennan — were also recognised at the awards for their work.
