Gardaí make appeal for witnesses to fatal road crash in Cork; motocyclist killed in collision

GARDAÍ have made an appeal for information regarding a fatal road collision in Cork on Wednesday evening.

A motorcyclist in his 40s was killed yesterday in an accident near Ovens.

The alarm was raised at 6.15pm and emergency services rushed to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital.

The incident occurred between Begley's Forge and Crossbarry on the L2218.

No other injuries were reported but it is understood a van was also involved in the incident.

Four units from the Cork city and Cork county fire service attended the crash.

The road was closed to allow for an investigation by Garda forensic collision investigators and remained closed last night with diversions in place.

A Garda spokesperson said this morning: "Gardaí at Bandon are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward and are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling between Begley's Forge and Crossbarry on the L2218 at approximately 6:15pm to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Bandon Garda Station on 023 8852200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
