THE son of chef Rachel Allen has been released from prison on temporary release.
Joshua Allen was given reviewable temporary release from Cork prison at the start of the month.
In February, Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin gave him a two-and-a-half-year sentence with the second half of it suspended, at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. The sentence was backdated to November 8, 2019.
Allen, from Ballinamona, Shanagarry, County Cork, was charged following a controlled delivery of a package to him from the US, after customs officers at Portlaoise mail centre became suspicious of the package. He was charged with possession of cannabis which was worth more than €22,000. He also pleaded guilty to a change of possession of a small amount of cocaine.
His temporary release comes with a number of conditions, including signing on at Cork Prison.
A spokesman for the Irish Prison Service said the IPS does not comment on individual prisoner cases.
