A YOUNG woman with 123 shoplifting convictions was sentenced to 11 months for another series of thefts.
Margaret Deasy, 31, of Cork Simon Community admitted the offences, committed in February and March in Cork city centre premises, including Ann Summers on Princes St, Dealz in Merchants Quay, Mr Price on North Main St and Tiger on Patrick St.
Judge Olann Kelleher imposed the jail term.
Frank Buttimer said the accused suffered from depression and anxiety and had educational challenges that ended up in criminality and substance abuse.
Mr Buttimer said she had accessed treatment in prison and through Simon, but invariably ended up falling back into offending within a short time of her release after each of her many past sentences.
