A 28-year-old Cork illustrator has had his illustration selected for a makeup range collection which is honouring memorable women throughout history.
Ethan Desmond’s illustration is now the face of Bésame Cosmetics latest Iconic Women Series.
Mr Desmond’s illustration of Lucille Ball impressed the team at Bésame Cosmetics after he saw a post from the cosmetic brand who were in search of an illustrator of a specific style.
After getting in touch with the brand he said he never thought he would hear back but soon after received approval of his completed artwork.
He told The Echo that when he saw the sneak peek post on the brand’s social media accounts that he was “so excited”.
“I didn’t think the launch was for another while so seeing it on the actual product was completely overwhelming.” Mr Desmond always had a passion for illustration but was private about it for some time before he became known for his hand sketched while studying interior architecture at university.
With some encouragement from a friend, he began illustrations of bloggers which proved popular on his instagram account @fromthesketch_up which has been growing in popularity ever since.
Mr Desmond who currently works in interiors, creates fashion illustrations and portraits, as well as creating graphics for businesses.
“I don’t want to pigeonhole myself in one style. I like to blend styles together to create something unique, and my style is always evolving.
“I’ve worked with some designers in the fashion world, and it’s where my main love lies. I’m inspired by so much, honestly. From the strong people in my life, the power and strength of women, fashion, nature and music.
“A strong cup of tea grounds it all so I can put it on paper, and I’d usually run an idea for a project by my close friends to gauge responses,” he said.
Mr Desmond's has ticked off one of his goals on his bucket list which was to have his own illustration on cosmetics packaging.
“I’ve always loved makeup and the packaging, it’s been a lifelong goal to one day have a piece of that to say, “I did that” and the fact it’s based off of vintage styles, and Lucille Ball, I couldn’t have asked for a better piece,” he said.
He said that the achievement is “another step in the right direction” and proof that he can fulfil his dreams of doing what he loves.
The film, tv and glamour icon Lucille Ball is the first woman to feature in Bésame Cosmetics series which is on sale from today.
