Clean up crews from Cork City Council are currently on site at The Lough after it was left in a state of disarray.

Earlier this morning pictures of extensive littering emerged as crowds flocked to the popular amenity yesterday and last night.

Water bottles, cans of beer and cider, empty boxes and plastic bags were left strewn across the grass this morning after sunseekers turned out in force.

Locals were angered by the crowds of people at The Lough yesterday, pointing out the dangers of those breaching social distancing guidelines.

"I walk The Lough about three times a day at the moment, once in the morning, at lunchtime and generally again in the evening.

"Yesterday I actually got a fright at how many large groups I saw sitting on the grass.

"This morning I got an even bigger fright at the rubbish left," wrote Bea McCarthy on Twitter.
