Lidl are set to relocate one of their stores in county Cork, and create ten new jobs in the process.
Lidl Ireland have submitted a planning application for the 1.476 hectare site in Mallow, 650 metres from its current operating store on Park Road.
The company have said they are working closely with planners and architects to ensure the proposed new venture contributes positively to the Mallow area.
The new premises, when completed, is expected to create ten new local jobs in addition to the 19 people already employed in the current store.
The anticipated date for the opening of the new store - should it be greenlit - is some time in 2022, however Lidl have said they are assessing all new sites to see how construction timelines are affected as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic.
The company said: “The planned store will incorporate a range of sustainability features including an ISO 50001 certified Energy Management System, electric vehicle charger spaces and a solar panel system.
“It will also offer the retailer’s growing customer base a superior shopping experience with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles creating a comfortable shopping experience for customers.” The new store is also expected to support many local suppliers, including West Cork Distiller who supply Lidl with award-winning whiskeys and gins including Wild Burrow Irish Gin and Dundalgan Irish Whiskey.
The Distillery began supplying Lidl in 2015, and the retailer has invested over €12 million into the business to date. That includes facilitating the export of their products to Lidl stores in 16 countries across Europe.
Lidl Ireland employs 4,500 employees in its 163 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Mullingar and Newbridge.
