Micheál Martin is expected to be elected as the first Cork Taoiseach since Jack Lynch.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has confirmed this morning that the Cork South Central TD will lead the next Government.

It is also being reported that Varadkar has confirmed that the leaders of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party have agreed to rotate the role of Taoiseach and when the rotation will happen.

Earlier this morning, Cork South Central TD and Fianna Fáil Finance Spokesperson Michael McGrath had said it was his expectation that Micheál Martin will be nominated to lead the next government as Taoiseach.

Speaking on Morning Ireland he said that Mr Martin's leadership "is not in question" and that he has the skills and experience to lead the country through this difficult time.

It comes as talks on a draft programme for government continue.

These talks are expected to conclude later this morning.

Once the draft document is agreed it will be sent to the parliamentary parties for a vote of approval.
