Man arrested in relation to shop robbery in Cork city

Gardaí have arrested and charged a man in relation to a burglary in Cork city this morning.
Shortly after 3am Gardaí from Mayfield received a report from a member of the public of a possible burglary that was taking place at a shop on Lower Glanmire Road.
Gardaí attended the scene and carried out a search of the area. A man, aged in his 30s, was located and arrested on Brian Boru Street.
He was brought to Bridewell Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
He has since been charged and is due to appear before Cork City District Court this morning at 10.30am.
In a separate incident, a sum of money has been stolen from a shop in Douglas early this morning.
The premises in Broadale on South Douglas Road was broken into shortly after 4am.
A garda spokesman said: ''A sum of cash was taken from the location and some damage was caused to the property. No arrests have been made.''
He said an investigation ongoing.
