A Limerick man visiting someone in Cork University Hospital strolled over to Tesco in Wilton where he was caught shoplifting.

Andrew Grieves of Parkview, Hasset’s Cross, Limerick, pleaded guilty to the theft which he committed on March 10.

Sergeant Gearóid Davis said the defendant put headphones around his neck and walked out through the nearest exit without paying for them.

Defence solicitor, Diarmuid Kelleher, said, “He apologises profusely, He has come all the way from Limerick (to Cork District Court) for this case today.

“He has no idea how it happened. He was visiting CUH and went across the road and stole the headphones.”

Judge Olann Kelleher convicted and fined him €250 for the theft.
