GLASGOW City FC have issued a missing person appeal for Cork native Clare Shine amid concerns for her whereabouts.

Shine, a 25-year-old Irish soccer international, was last seen at 9.30am today but the club's statement said they are 'very concerned'.

The message from the club on social media, with a photograph of the footballer, read: "She was last seen in Roslin, Midlothian, but could have travelled anywhere else since. We are are all very concerned."

Shine, from Douglas, has appeared in squads for the Ireland senior team in recent years.

She grew a reputation as one of the best players in the country here in Cork before moving on to Raheny and then to Glasgow City.

The Cork woman returned back home for two years before rejoining Glasgow in 2019.

Shine recently opened up about her mental health struggles in an honest and poignant open letter to her younger self.

The letter was published by the online sports platform, The Sports Chronicle, in January and Shine won widespread praise for her courage in opening up.
