A driver who turned away from a checkpoint in Cork was later arrested after being found to be driving under the influence.
On Saturday evening, gardaí from the Fermoy District observed a car turning away from a checkpoint.
They followed the vehicle and subsequently brought it safely to a stop nearby.
The driver was arrested after being found to be driving under the influence and gardaí said he later failed a breath test at a garda station.
The motorist was also found to be in possession of cannabis, they said.
Furthermore, gardaí said it was found that there was no tax, insurance or NCT on the vehicle so it was seized.
Posting details of the incident on social media, gardaí urged people to never drink and drive.
