Football legend Roy Keane may have an immortalised reputation for his skills on the football field, but the Mayfield man is also renowned for something else - his sombre expression.

Back in February, in his first interview on The Late Late Show in 11 years, 'Keano' poked fun at himself telling Ryan Tubridy:

"My kids always say to me: 'Are you happy Dad?' And I say 'yeah' and they say 'well tell your face'".

Following his 49th birthday yesterday, the Irish Embassy in Washington DC took the opportunity to gently tease the former footballer for that exact reason.

Staff at the Embassy retweeted a picture posted by the FAI showing the former assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland with his characteristic stern expression.

"For our American friends, this is what a happy Corkman looks like," the Embassy joked.

The witty tweet garnered significant attention online, with Twitter users saying they "cracked up laughing".

Another person joked that the Embassy had "misspelt ecstatic".
