Cork County Council is undertaking emergency road repairs on the N71 in Rosscarbery.

The local authority says works commenced this morning and eastbound traffic will be diverted through the village.

Westbound traffic will be unaffected.

A number of roads in West Cork were significantly damaged following heavy rain in recent days.

The Rosscarbery/Glandore Rd (R597) remains closed following flooding.

"Motorists are reminded to drive with caution in the area, as many roads in West Cork have been damaged during the recent weather events," Cork County Council said in a statement.

A yellow weather warning is in place in Cork and 13 other counties today.

Met Éireann says heavy and thundery rain can be expected today with localised flooding and accumulations of 25 to 40mm in places.

The weather warning, which was issued earlier this morning, will remain in effect until 7am on Tuesday morning.
