Former Chairman of Kinsale Chamber of Tourism Garry Fitzsimons to be laid to rest

The funeral of former Chairman of Kinsale Chamber of Tourism and brainchild of Kinsale Food Forum Garry Fitzsimons will take place today.

Mr Fitzsimons was a well-known face in the Kinsale community, promoting the town as a centre for business and tourism and actively providing activities for children and young people in the area as a Scout leader.

Mr Fitzsimons and his wife Anne moved from Belfast to Kinsale over 40 years ago and have been heavily involved in various community groups, including Kinsale Lions Club with Mr Fitzsimons becoming President and Treasurer of the club.

He was the former Chairman of Kinsale Chamber of Tourism and brainchild of Kinsale Food Forum and loved to sing with the parish choir and Cork Male Voice Choir.

Mr Fitzsimons passed away in the care of the staff at Bridhaven Nursing Home in Mallow on Friday and a private Requiem Mass will take place today at St. John the Baptist Church in Kinsale.

His funeral cortege will be passing through Harbour Heights at 1.30pm on route to St. John the Baptist Church, and after the Funeral Mass, the cortege will proceed in the traditional route through Kinsale town.

He is missed by his wife Anne, children Shane, Paula, David and Barry, son-in-law Ian, daughters-in-law Deirdre, Jenny and Denise, his 11 grandchildren, brother Peter, sister Nuala, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and many friends and the wider community.
