The Four Liars Bistro, immediately adjacent to the Butter Museum in Shandon, has been closed for some time, however, the eatery reopened on Thursday under new ownership.

Abdul Khalouf together with his business partner Ahmed both escaped war-torn Syria a number of years ago and settled in Cork.

Speaking on Cork's 96FM to PJ Coogan Mr Khalouf, who worked as an archaeologist and tour guide in his native country, said he is excited to start the new venture, despite this being a challenging time for businesses.

"We are all together in this.

"This is our way to help in the community, to help the local people who helped us.

"We will try – hopefully with success."

With a keen interest in history, Mr Khalouf said he was delighted to learn the story behind the bistro's name and was adamant on keeping it.

The Four Liars Bistro will bring a taste of Syrian cuisine to Cork with both vegetarian and meat options available on their large menu.
