New world record set in Cork
Skipper Frank Kowalski, Crew Ciaran Monks, Carl Randalls, Mary Power and Robert Guzik who were on board Thunder Child 11 for the Cork Fastnet run.

A new powerboat world record has been set in Cork. 

Youghal-based Safehaven Marine, who design and build pilot, patrol and survey vessels, set a new 50ft Cork-Fastnet-Cork UIM Powerboat World record, reaching speeds of 53 knots on the journey. 

The crew set out on the challenge from Weaver’s Point at 2pm, aboard the Thunder Child II vessel.

They rounded the Fastnet at around 3.30pm, before returning to Cork.

The overall journey was completed in 2 hours and 36 minutes, subject to ratification, with crews averaging 44.6 knots on the journey.
