Met Éireann has also issued the warning for Kilkenny, Wexford, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford, as "heavy thundery rain" is expected late this evening and overnight.

The national weather forecaster has said there could be accumulations of 20 to 30mm as "torrential downpours" are expected.

There is also a risk of spot flooding in places.

The warning will come into effect from 8pm tonight and will remain in place until 9am tomorrow morning.

Over the course of the next few days and into the weekend, conditions are set to remain humid and unsettled with long spells of rain.
