Cork city road closed due to fallen cables; Motorists urged to be cautious

Gardaí are asking all motorists to take extra care on the roads this morning.

Lee Rd is currently closed between Leemount Cross and the Sunday’s Well Road junction due to fallen cables.

Parts of the city suffered flash floods yesterday during periods of heavy rain and Gardaí are asking all motorists to take extra care on the roads this morning.

“Driving conditions remain challenging after heavy overnight rain,” the force said on Twitter. “Slow down and maintain a safe driving distance at all times.”

After the unsettled weather conditions of the last few days, Cork is set to be cool and breezy today.

Met Éireann said: “A few showers still scattered about this morning, but the showers will becoming increasingly isolated, and sunshine will gradually break through after a cloudy start. Fresh and gusty northerly winds will be strong near the coast.”

Tonight is also set to be mainly dry under largely clear skies, with just isolated light showers. Lows of 6 to 10 degrees with northerly winds gradually moderating.
