Boy (14) recovering in hospital following rescue from water off Cork coast

A 14-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being rescued from the water off the coast of Cork this afternoon.
The teenager was having difficulty breathing in the water near Inch Beach after getting caught in a rip current while swimming with two friends.
A member of Swell Surf School spotted the boy in difficulty and went to his aid and brought him to shore after managing to get the casualty onto his surfboard.
First aid was administered by the surf team until an ambulance crew and paramedics arrived at the scene.
Guileen Coast Guard was tasked at 4pm and the casualty was taken to hospital as a precaution.
In a post to Facebook, Guileen Coast Guard said: “We wish him a speedy recovery and a huge well done to the Swell Surf School member.
“Don't forget if you see someone in trouble in the water, phone 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
