Cork’s Technology Network is offering free maths tutorials for 2021 Leaving Cert students.

CEIA tutorials will be given by chartered engineers and scientists drawn from industry across Cork, and are designed to educate and show how maths can be used in practical applications.

The tutorials are free and will be conducted online to comply with the latest Covid-19 guidance.

CEIA spokesperson Valerie Cowman said Covid-19 has "disrupted an entire generation of maths students" but assured 2021 Leaving Cert students that Cork’s Technology Network is there to help.

"We cannot allow the challenges posed by Covid-19 to discourage students from reaching their full potential.

"To that end, we have assembled an amazing team of tutors who will help attendees develop their understanding of maths and its application," she said.

Upon registering, students are asked to select the top three preferred maths topics they would like covered.

"We will endeavour to cover the topics requested by the majority of registered students.

"Our aim is to support the work being undertaken in schools, and show students the value of maths as they decide on college courses in the months ahead," said Mark Murphy of Mark Murphy Consultancy, one of the tutors.

"We are fortunate to have so many STEM opportunities available to Irish graduates, and the first step for many of them is honours level maths at leaving cert," he continued.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The tutorials will start on Saturday, September 5, 2020.

Tutorials will take place via Zoom on Saturday mornings from 10am-12:30pm.
