Cork Gardaí catch motorist travelling at almost double the speed limit on Ballincollig bypass

A motorist was caught travelling at 186km/h on the Ballincollig bypass by Cork City RPU.

A motorist could be put off the roads after Cork Gardaí clocked the driver doing 186km/h on the N22 Ballincollig bypass.

Cork City Road Policing Unit were conducting speed checks and detected the driver travelling at a speed well in excess of the limit on the Ballincollig bypass.

In a social media post, Gardaí said the motorist will be ordered to appear in court and that they may face a possible disqualification.

Gardaí also took the opportunity to renew their appeal to the public to abide by the speed limit. 

Over the weekend, Cork City RPU and the Road Safety Authority Ireland also conducted a multi-agency checkpoint, where multiple offences were detected. 

One driver was required to change a tyre on site and was issued with a fix charged penalty notice.

Another driver was arrested and charged for giving false details and driving on another person's driver card. 

They were brought before court and issued fines on both charges.
