TWO Irish fishing vessels are being escorted into Cork Harbour this afternoon by the Irish Navy.

The vessels were detained earlier today on suspicion of breaching fishing regulations.

They were detained off the Cork coast and are being escorted by the LE William Butler Yeats.

The vessels were 75 miles off the coast of Cork, to the southeast of Cork Harbour, when they were detained.

The vessels will be handed over to An Garda Siochana when they arrive into Cork Harbour.

A spokesman for the Defence Forces said: "The Naval Service has now detained ten vessels to date in 2020. The Defence Forces conducts at sea fishery inspections in line with the service level agreement with the Sea Fishery Protection Authority, as part of its delivery of government services to the state."
