Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a robbery and assault incident in Fermoy over the weekend.

At around 7.30pm on Saturday night, gardaí received a report that a man had his jacket and wallet stolen after attending a game of road bowling at Glenabo Woods.

Gardaí said that two men wearing balaclavas had exited a grey Mercedes car and assaulted the man with, what is believed to be, a baseball bat.

A third man, also wearing a balaclava, waited in the car which “left the scene in the direction of Cullenagh Fermoy and onward toward Cappagh Cross following the assault.”

The injured man attended Cork University hospital with minor injuries and was later discharged.

Gardaí said in a statement that the man’s wallet is believed to have contained a substantial amount of cash.

They are appealing for witnesses to the incident and are urging anyone who was in the general Fermoy area, particularly Glenabo Woods, Cullenagh and Cappagh Cross areas, and who may have seen anything unusual to contact them.

Gardaí are particularly appealing to any road users with camera footage to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025-82100.
