Increased garda numbers in Carrigaline

Carrigaline looks set to get another member of the force under the Community Policing Unit.

Carrigaline has gained five Gardaí since January 2020 and looks set to get another member of the force under the Community Policing Unit.

Responding to a request from Independent councillor Ben Dalton O’Sullivan seeking increased numbers in the Carrigaline area, Chief Superintendent Barry McPolin said the area was gaining force numbers.

“As Chief, I can tell you we are not forgetting about Carrigaline, Togher is a busy suburban area, and there are demands across the city," he said. "We have to allocate according to data we have gathered and I assure you we are keeping a close eye on Carrigaline.” 

Chief Supt McPolin also said Carrigaline is likely to benefit under the Community Policing Unit by the end of the year.

Outlining the figures across the suburbs, Chief Supt McPolin said Carrigaline has 23 personnel while Bishopstown had 20, Douglas had 28 and Togher had 51.
