It's "the end of an era" for a much-loved hair and beauty studio in the city centre as the business has announced its closure after 40 years in business.
Jerry’s Hair & Beauty Studio on Carey’s Lane confirmed the news in a social media post yesterday.
The proprietor of the renowned studio, Jerry Hudson, passed away earlier this year following a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their two children, Karl and Victoria who all worked in the business.
"It is with mixed emotions that we announce the end of an era.
"This year, 2020 has been a poignant year for both us as a family and as a business.
"This year marks 40 years in business for Jerry’s Hair & Beauty Studio which is something that we are extremely proud to have achieved.
"We have provided a high quality service and have been an enthusiastic part of the local community.
"Unfortunately, this year also marked the passing of our beloved Jerry, the Salon director whose dedication and leadership steered the salon for these 40 years.
"This, along with the challenges raised by Covid-19, we have made the difficult decision to close the salon," the family said in their statement.
The family paid tribute to their staff, both past and present for their hard work and dedication.
"We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for making Jerry’s Hair Studio one of Cork’s most popular hair styling establishments," the family said.
"We would also like to thank all of our loyal clients from over the years.
"Your support and understanding especially in recent times has meant a lot to us.
"We wish you all the best for a happy and prosperous future," they continued.
In their statement, the family expressed their gratitude to fellow businesses on Carey’s Lane for their "support and kindness" throughout the years.
"We have developed many friendships and loyal customers over the years and we shall miss them deeply but the time has come for us to pursue other endeavours and this decision has certainly not been taken lightly.
"Thank you again for your compassion and understanding," they concluded.
Jerry Hudson passed away in March following a short illness.
He died at the age of 67.
Speaking toat the time, Mary Hudson described Jerry as a "perfectionist, who devoted everything to his job".
"He couldn’t work enough hours!
"He loved his customers and he gave them so much.
"He had a way of making people feel special,” she said.
