Two killed in separate road crashes in Cork

Gardaí are investigating both road accidents. 

LATEST:  A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed in a second fatal road accident in Cork today.

The accident also involved a car, near Dromahane, outside Mallow.

A local road in the area has been closed.

A forensic examination will be carried out at the scene.

The accident occurred after 2pm.

Earlier today, a woman in her 60s was killed in a crash between a car and a lorry at Baxter's Bridge, between Bandon and Enniskeane. 

A man who was seriously injured in that accident has been taken to hospital.

EARLIER: A WOMAN has been killed and another person has been injured in a road accident in west Cork.

The woman, who was in her 60s and living in the west Cork area, was a passenger in a car which was in collision with a lorry at Baxter's Bridge on the road between Bandon and Enniskeane.

The man who was driving the car has been taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.

A helicopter attended the scene but was not required.

Superintendent Brendan Fogarty said the driver of the lorry did not require hospital treatment.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place, while a forensic examination is carried out.

Efforts are now being made to contact the relatives of the dead woman.

Supt Fogarty is appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident at 12.45pm, and particularly anyone with dashcam footage, to contact Bandon gardaí on 023 8852200.
