Traffic was brought to a near standstill in parts of North Cork this morning as hauliers held a slow protest on the N73, Mitchelstown to Mallow road.
The protest was organised to raise awareness of what has been described as 'dangerous' conditions on parts of the route.
Local County Councillor Frank Roche said truck drivers are extremely sick of travelling on the road, which they say is too narrow for purpose and has led to a number of minor accidents.
The protest, which consisted of as many as 50 trucks, along with vans and cars, took to the road at 8.30am on Friday morning in an attempt to highlight the conditions of the road.
Mr Roche said a local landowner has offered land free of charge to the county council in order to widen the main thoroughfare to give trucks more space to pass each other.
“It is scandalous what is happening there are accidents every day of the week. The road is extremely narrow, drivers have to pull in their mirrors to pass each other," he said.
