Update: Man charged in relation to assault of pensioner in Cork to appear in court

The man arrested in relation to an assault on Old Fort Road, Ballincollig on October 22, 2020 has since been charged.

He is due to appear before Cork City District Court (sitting at Washington Street) this afternoon.

Gardaí would like to thank the public for their assistance regarding the witness appeal.

Earlier: Gardaí have arrested a man, aged in his late 20s, in relation to an assault on Old Fort Road, Ballincollig earlier this month.

The man was arrested this morning and is currently detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

It follows a Garda investigation into an assault incident that occurred on Old Fort Road, which is located behind the Castlewest Shopping Centre in Ballincollig, at around 3.30pm on October 22, 2020.

An altercation occurred between a driver and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, aged in his 70s, was brought to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí had appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact Ballincollig Garda Station 021-421 4680.
