Some 120 new jobs have been announced for Cork this Christmas along with the re-opening of Tesco in Douglas Shopping Centre.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin joined Tesco workers  in Douglas to welcome the announcement of the jobs for Cork.

The Douglas Shopping Centre itself, along with Tesco, is due to reopen on November 12 after a year-long closure of the shopping centre following a devastating fire.

The jobs are part of 1,150 roles announced by Tesco across Ireland.

Of these roles, 450 are full-time permanent roles available nationwide with 120 of them in Cork. 700 temporary roles are being created to assist with a safe and easy shopping trip during the Christmas trading period.

Mr Martin said: “These additional jobs will further improve the shopping experience for customers as well as providing an employment boost in Cork and right across the country.”

Kari Daniels, CEO, Tesco Ireland, said the business was pleased to be able to create these new opportunities.

“Since the start of this pandemic, our colleagues have risen to the challenge to continue to serve our customers and communities. We are pleased to be able to add these roles at this challenging time. We look forward to welcoming these new team members who will enjoy good careers in a dynamic retail industry.”
