The coast guard was alerted this evening after a man fell from the cliff walkway near Garretstown and into the water.
It is understood that a man fell from the cliff path and into the water at around 4.50pm today while out walking with his wife, who raised the alarm.
The Old Head of Kinsale coast guard unit, the Courtmacsherry lifeboat and Rescue 115 helicopter from Shannon Airport as well as local gardaí and ambulance services responded to the alert.
However, the man was able to make his own way out of the water just as the emergency services arrived.
He was this evening in the care of a local doctor and ambulance services. He is believed to have suffered no serious injuries.
The Valentia Coast Guard told The Echo the man tripped off the cliff pathway near Garretstown and that, although cold and wet, is now fine.
