New school for busy Cork town, parents invited to express preference for patronage

The Minister for Education is inviting parents of children in the Ballincollig area to express their preference for the patronage of a new school due to open in the town.

The Minister for Education is inviting parents of children in the Ballincollig area to express their preference for the patronage of a new school due to open in the town.

A new post-primary school is to open in Ballincollig in 2021 with two applicant patrons for the school namely; An Foras Pátrúnachta and Le Chéile Schools Trust.

Parents whose children will be commencing first year in post-primary school from 2021-2025, and who are living in the relevant school planning areas, are eligible to make their preference for patronage known in a new online survey and the Minister for Education Norma Foley is encouraging all parents of eligible children to engage with this survey.

"This is an unusual and challenging time for school patrons and school communities. It is important that the patronage process for the post-primary schools which are to open in 2021 is conducted in as normal a fashion as possible, with parents given the option to express their preference on the choice of patron,” she said.

The Minister added: “I encourage all parents of eligible children in the relevant school planning areas to take a look at the patronage options and engage with the survey.

"Your preferences, together with the extent of diversity currently available in these areas, will be key to decisions in relation to the outcome of this process."

Parents can express their patronage preferences using the department’s Online Patronage Process System (OPPS) website at patronage.education.gov.ie up until 9am on 16 November.
