Cork town welcomes plans for new fire station

Macroom welcomes plans for a new Fire Station.

Plans for a new fire station in Macroom have been announced following the acceptance of a €1.337m tender for the project.

Cork North West TD, Aindrias Moynihan has welcomed the plans for the new station following the acceptance of his tender by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD.

“I am delighted that the tender has finally been approved. This has been a long process with the new site near Millstreet Cross having planning permission in place since 2018,” said Mr Moynihan.

“The current town centre location is often challenging and the location inside the castle arch is cramped and can be difficult to access. The new location will have easy access to the new bypass and ample room for more suitable staff accommodation.”

The site for the new Macroom Fire Station will be near Millstreet Cross.

The fire site will allow easy access to the new bypass and it will be situated beside the town's new Garda Station.

“This new fire station will give the community in Macroom and surrounding areas peace of mind. It will increase capacity at Macroom Fire Station and equip it with state-of-the-art equipment and safety features.

“This will achieve efficiencies of service and safety for the fire officers working in this station and the community,” added Mr Moynihan.
