Woman airlifted to Cork University Hospital after falling at cliff trail

A WOMAN in her 20s has been safely airlifted to Cork University Hospital from Nohoval Cove after falling on a rocky walkway along a cliff trail in the area.

An emergency call was made before 4pm seeking an ambulance for assistance and HSE paramedics and the Irish Community Rapid Response air ambulance responded to the call out.

However, the ICRR helicopter was not equipped to airlift the woman from the pathway and a call was made to the coastguard to seek help from the Waterford R117 helicopter.

The R117, arrived on the scene around 4.30pm.

The crew safely lifted the woman from the cliff walk and flew to Cork Airport, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to Cork Unversity Hospital.

While the woman was awaiting the R117, members of the Oysterhaven and Summercove coast guard units attended the scene and treated the woman for her injuries.

The woman, who is thought to have serious leg injuries, is said to have been in a ‘comfortable’ position when transported to Cork Airport.
