Will Ferrell has chosen this popular Cork spot as the place he would spend lockdown in Ireland

Will Ferrell revealed where in Ireland he would like to be stuck in lockdown after fellow actor Matt Damon found himself quarantining in the country for three months.

Mr Ferrell appeared on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast show which was hosted by Alison Curtis to chat about his new movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga in which he stars alongside Rachel McAdams.

While on air he revealed that if he had to choose a place to spend lockdown in Ireland that it would be at the Jameson Distillery in Midleton where he would “have a little room up there in the office”.

The actor spoke of his new Netflix movie based on the Eurovision, which Ireland has won a record seven times in total.

He said that explaining the concept of the song contest went down well with Netflix bosses despite the fact that it is not very well known in the US.

“We were just lucky enough to walk into Netflix and sort of explain what it was and they, to their credit, kind of got the whole spectacle of it and we didn’t go anywhere else in Hollywood they just said we love this idea and and we’re going to take it off the market, so we got lucky,” he said.

He said that the movie tells the story of small-town singers who go on a journey of chasing their pop star dreams against all odds.

“That was something that became kind of apparent that we wanted to do as we developed the script, there’s a lot of humour to be had when you watch the show, a lot of kitsch at times, but we just though that at the centre of it it needs to have an emotional base and we just thought gosh if we can get people to follow these two characters on this journey on pursuit of their dreams against all odds, if we can kind of achieve both that would be great,” he said.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams will hit Netflix on June 26.
