Weather warning in place for Cork

There is a weather warning currently in place for Cork, with strong winds expected across Wednesday afternoon.

Met Éireann issued the Status Yellow wind warning for Cork and Kerry last night. It came into force at noon and remains in place until 5pm.

The forecaster said West to Northwest winds will reach mean speeds of between 50 and 65km/h with gusts up to 90km/h. Winds will be strongest along coasts.

Ireland has enjoyed an extended spell of mild weather in recent weeks but that is currently changing, with freezing temperatures predicted in Cork tonight.

Met Éireann forecasts temperatures will be just four or five degrees at best today and it will feel noticeably cooler as northwest winds freshen Tonight will be mostly dry with just isolated showers, but temperatures will fall below freezing - down to between minus one and minus two degrees. Winds will be fresh to strong northwest to west and later becoming northerly.
