Investigating gardaí revealed today that a woman in her 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The woman is being held for questioning at Gurranabraher garda station on the northside of Cork city following her arrest this morning.

The arrest comes as Gardaí continue their probe into the death of the child.

An entire sweep of the Elderwood apartments on Boreenmanna Road in the city has been carried out by gardaí, with door-to-door inquiries of every unit in the building.

It has emerged that Gardaí were called to the apartment block twice on Friday morning.

They were called once between 3am and 4am in relation to a noise disturbance and again, shortly after 5am, when little Santina was rushed to the hospital. She was pronounced dead later on Friday morning.
