The Voice contestants from Cork raising money for health services with new video and song

A CORK singer has played a pivotal role in recording a song and video to raise funds in the Covid-19 fight.

Sarah Goodwin sprang to fame on The Voice UK earlier this year, as a member of the girl group Belle Noir, who were knocked out at the semi-final stage.

The final has been put on hold because of the coronavirus epidemic, and Sarah, of Ballincollig, and her band-mates decided to do something for charity.

They organised for 30 Voice UK contestants - including the show's eight finalists - to record the Stevie Wonder song As at their homes and turned it into a record and video.

Another Cork singer who appeared in The Voice UK this year, Elly O'Keeffe, of Knocknagree, also performs on the song, which is raising money for Britain's National Health Service.

"We girls in Belle Noir orchestrated the whole thing and asked contestants to record themselves at home," explained Sarah, "and then we edited the video together."

The band - Sarah and two British singers, Emily Patrikios and Jasmine Gur - shared the video on Instagram after teasing their fans about an upcoming project.

They said: "We’ve got something very exciting up our green velvet sleeves involving our @thevoiceuk brothers and sisters... keep your eyes peeled!"

The Voice UK, shown on Virgin Media and ITV, was suspended because of Covid-19 distancing rules before the live final could take place and organisers hope to broadcast it later in the year.
