Strict visitor restrictions remain in place in several Cork hospitals

The public have been reminded that strict visitor restrictions are still in place across the South/ South West Hospital Group due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In Cork, Cork University Hospital (CUH), Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH), South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital (MUH), Bantry General Hospital and Mallow General Hospital have all implemented restrictions in a bid to prevent the spread of infection.

Anyone with any queries about visiting times or visiting a particular hospital is advised to contact the respective hospital directly.

In a statement issued by the South/ South West Hospital Group they stated that strict visitor restrictions are a necessary measure.

"We regret any inconvenience caused to patients and relatives by these necessary measures.

"All infection control measures are in place and every effort is being made by each hospital to manage and contain the spread of infection," they said.

Visitor restrictions are also in place at all Bon Secours Health System facilities.

This comes as the Cork's Bon Secours Hospital yesterday confirmed the case of Covid-19 in a male patient who is understood to have an underlying health condition.

Meanwhile, CUH will be reducing/rescheduling outpatient appointments between today and Wednesday.

The hospital has stated that surgeries will proceed as normal unless patients are contacted by the hospital and advised otherwise.

Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, dialysis are amongst the services which will not be affected.

In a statement issued by Bon Secours hospital management yesterday, they said:

"Elective surgeries will continue as normal in Cork except in a very small number of cases and those patients are being contacted."
