St Kevin’s goes on sale for €3m

THE former St Kevin's hospital and asylum has been put for sale by the HSE for almost €3m with a future residential use likely.

The distinctive red-brick building at Shanakiel overlooking the River Lee was badly damaged in a major fire last year having lain vacant since 2002.

Estate Agents Lisney are now listing the property for sale at €2.95m. The buildings and lands cover approximately 14.2 Acres. Almost six hectares is laid out in three levels with a series of buildings including the former St Kevin’s Hospital, St Dympna's, St Kevin’s Church and number of outbuildings totalling approximately 8,300 square metres.

The majority of the site is zoned for “Residential, Local Services and Institutional uses” in the Cork City Development Plan 2015 to 2021 and a number of the buildings are recorded in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.

Lisney say they expect strong interest in the property given its location, size of the site, proximity to the city centre and "clear residential development opportunity."
