'Severe frost and icy stretches' forecast for Cork

MET Éireann has implemented a status yellow snow and ice warning for the entire country as conditions become increasingly wintry.

The warning, which came into effect from 6am today, will remain in place until 9am tomorrow.

Today the national weather forecaster predicated "wintry showers, mainly of hail and sleet" that "will become increasingly widespread leading to icy patches".

Tomorrow there will be a continuing risk of snow showers, mainly over high ground, with conditions deteriorating overnight with "sharp or severe frost and icy stretches" forecast.

Minimum temperatures tomorrow night of zero to minus 3 degrees with mostly light winds.

Thursday is expected to be mostly dry and bright, with sunny spells to start, but scattered wintry showers are likely to occur as the day goes on.

Another cold day is expected with highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.

Thursday night will have a frosty start, but this is set to clear through the night as cloud builds.

These cold weather conditions are expected to continue into Friday and throughout the weekend.
