Rachel joins Darina for Penny Dinners

Rachel Allen, Darina Allen, Neven Maguire and Ross Lewis are just some of the top Irish chefs backing the latest Cork Penny Dinners fundraiser.

The experts have each contributed recipes for a new publication that will be sold as part of a special fundraising event - Mum’s Dish 2017 - which will take place in Musgrave Park on Wednesday, March 8 at 7:30pm.

In addition, many of the same chefs have donated prizes for the event, including signed cookbooks and vouchers for their various hospitality establishments, all to be raffled off on the night.

Local Cork business have also made very generous contributions to the fundraiser.

The Mum’s Dish 2017 event itself promises to be a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment, beginning with wine and nibbles before the audience sit down to a rapid-fire cookery demo featuring six of Cork’s top chefs, Bryan McCarthy from Greene’s, Gautham Iyer from Iyer’s Café, Pamela Kelly from Market Lane, Ciaran Scully from Bayview House Hotel, Kate Lawlor from Fenn’s Quay and Ali Honour from Ali’s Kitchen.

Hosting on the night will be food writer Joe McNamee, with organic wines sponsored by Wines Direct.

The event is the brainchild of local Cork chef/caterer Grace Coffey who wanted to fundraise in memory of her mother who died last year.

All the contributing chefs were asked to supply a recipe that reminded them of their own mothers, and these have been assembled into a special publication which will be available on the night.

Chefs and other personalities who contributed, along with those mentioned above, include Denis Cotter from Café Paradiso, Martin Shanahan from Fishy Fishy in Kinsale, Kevin Aherne from Sage in Midleton, and hotelier and TV celebrity Francis Brennan.
